1798 Letter of Introduction for Two London Wine Merchants - Lord Mayor of London

$19.95Price

This is an original letter of introduction for two wine merchants from the Lord Mayor of London John William Anderson. Anderson was Lord Mayor from (1797-1798) and became 1st Baronet, of Mill Hill, Hendon on May 14, 1798.

Shirreff, from Edinburgh, and Henderson, from London, were hoping to expand their business to the new United States of America. They received a letter of introduction which looks to have also been a letter of credit from the Lord Mayor and presented it to the proper authroities in NYC. The informaion in the margin of this letter shows that it was listed in the book of conveyances (land sales) so it may be that Henderson and Shirreff bought a shop in the city where they set up their wine shop.

In excellent shape for its age and with its wax seal intact, it is a wonderful 221 year old document.

Make sure to click on each picture to see the entire picture and its description! Finally! I have gotten a chance to take some pics of my home. Most of these pictures are of my living room that is set up as a lawyer's office from the early 1800s. (Yes! I am crazy!) This first pic is what you see when you walk into my living room and look to the right.
