1829 Military Discharge from Maine Militia for Captain Lewis Wakefield

This is the 1829 military discharge for Captain Lewis Wakefield from the Maine Militia. He was born on 6/12/1796 to Nathaniel Wakefield and Sarah (Martin) Wakefield. He was a student at Thornton Academy in Saco, ME and graduated in 1821. He married Urania B Huff of Saco, ME on 11/18/1825 and when she died on 1/30/1834 he married Sarah (no last name) on 9/6/1835. He had several children with his first wife before she died at the age of 28.
As shown on his discharge paper, Captain Wakefield requested his discharge/resignation of Samuel Cone, the Adjutant General of Maine, and was given an honorable discharge. He then died on 3/1/1836, only seven years after his discharge and two years after his second marriage. He was 39 years old at the time of his death. It is possible that Captain Wakefield has sustained an injury during his service and had to resign or he may have contracted a disease and needed to resign his commission
