Mid 19th Century Fruitwood Sewing/Reel Clamp
A mid-19th century fruitwood sewing/reel clamp with wood spindles for thread winding and a darkly stained turned cup fixture at the top to hold a small pin ball. The rotating spindles allowed the seamstress to use multiple threads and colors at one time.
Sold through shops and itinerant dealers, it would have had a place of honor in middle class homes. Still strong, colorful, and beautiful after 160 years, it spins a well as it did back in the 1860's. It stands 12.5" tall and could still be used today.
This will make a wonderful addition to your textile or sewing implement collection.
