1874 Oak Hat Box with Dated Newspaper Lining

This is a circa 1874 oak hat box that is similar in looks to the oak grain measures being made at this time. The tiny nails at the front along with the lapped band on the lid give it a primitive look and would probably have held a man's top hat. The top was painted black and the interior is covered in newsprint from the Youth's Companion

Magazine that is dated July 30, 1874. I show it as part of a Christmas vingette but it would also look wonderful with a larger table top tree in it and surrounded by early toys like the German paper mache horse shown in the pictures. It can also sit in a cupboard or on a shelf as a background for smaller antiques or in with your oak grain measures. It has a 14" x 11" oval 'diameter' top and stands 9" tall. The items shown with the hat box in some of the pictures are not included in the price of the box but are available in this December 2017 update.

My living room 2018

Make sure to click on each picture to see the entire picture and its description! Finally! I have gotten a chance to take some pics of my home. Most of these pictures are of my living room that is set up as a lawyer's office from the early 1800s. (Yes! I am crazy!) This first pic is what you see when you walk into my living room and look to the right.
