An Early 19th Century Calfskin Child's Schoolbook with Drawings
This early 19th century calfskin 'English Reader' book was rebound in calfskin and sewn with thread to preserve the book for another generation of young childred. would look wonderful sitting in and among other early leather books. In 1816, the book was owned by Abraham S Simkins and he may have been its first owner. Young Master Simkins doodled in his book and made some beautiful pictures on one of the inner pages. This little book is delicate and fragile but is, and was, a veru precious treasure. It is 7" x 4" x 1".
