Antique Chestnut Trencher - Early 19th Century New England
Believe it or not, this is an early 19th century chestnut trencher that was cut on a tangential line. The color and patina of this lovely early New England trencher is offset by its light as a feather weight. At one time, someone added a tin make-do repair to one side of the trencher and then later in its life, the repair was removed and some sort of natural glue was added to secure the crack. You can still see the area of oxidation where the metal repair was first secured but is now just a shadow of the past life of this antique treasure. Our old growth American chestnut trees are gone due to an invasive insect and disease so this wood trencher is even more amazing and would be a wonderful addition to your primitive home. It measures 21.5" long x 11.5" wide x 5" tall.
