A wonderful 3" x 3.5" ambrotype in a full case of a sad looking lady who has what looks like a mourning brooch at her neck. All of her jewels, including the mourning brooch are picked out in gold paint for the photograph. She has black fringe on her bodice and the bottoms of her sleeves but is also wearing a lace collar and lace undersleeves so it is possible she is in her second year of grief.
