An antique German paper mache camel. These camels were used in putz displays and also as part of the Nativity. In some large displays, they were placed in the 'desert' areas on their way to Bethlehem.  Children would be sent out to find rocks, moss, and small twigs and bark for the display. Sand was often used as the 'desert' with the Three Wise Men and their camels traveling towards Bethlehem. This camel stands 5.5" tall.
