Circa 1800 Northeastern Woodlands Native American Burl Bowl with Handle

$395.00Price

This is a rare and beautiful circa 1800 (or earlier) Native American ash burl bowl with an applied handle. The exterior is as beautiful as the day it was made and the interior shows the dark burn marks of where hot stones would have been added to the food in the bowl. It feels as beautiful as it looks and the bottom is as beautiful as the rest of the bowl so it was not used in the fire but the stones would have kept food hot until it could be eaten.

There are no chips or cracks in this amazing bowl and the only divits or dents are those that would have been on the burl when it was still on the tree. As our American ash trees are continuing to die from beetle infestations, we are losing those gorgeous trees that were once very important to the native people of America.

It has a 8" x 9" top diameter and is 8" x 12" to the end of the handle and it stands 6" tall.
