Early 1800's Tin Petticoat Whale Oi l Lamp with Original Painted Surface!
A very RARE early 1800s petticoat whale oil lamp in its original japanned and hand painted surface that is so rare that I have never seen one before with all of its paint intact. It has its original wick and has no missing pieces at all. Usually these are found (and there is one on my website) in a bare tin surface because all of the paint has worn off either from the heat that builds up from the heated surface or it is so well-used that the paint has completely worn off. It is known as a 'petticoat' lamp because the base of the lamp was made to fit into the top of a candlestick and the little tin petticoat fits over the top of the candlestick. RARE and amazing, this little lamp will be a fantastic addition to your collection.
It is 6" tall x 3.75" wide.
