Civil War Era GEM Metal Book Locket with Pictures of Grant and Three Generals

Civil War Era GEM Metal Book Locket with Pictures of Grant and Three Generals

This is an EXTREMELY RARE tiny locket filled with four GEM photographic images of US Grant and three of his generals. GEM refers to tiny 3/4" to 1 1/4" photographic images and the images in this locket are of the smallest size of 3/4". Made during the Civil War era, they were worn by women and girls with many of them sold already filled with pictures of President Lincoln, US Grant, his generals, and other important people of the time. Made in the shape of a book, these lockets would carry from 4 to 12 photographic images with the larger ones called telescoping lockets.

This locket is missing its loop for attaching to a necklace but has its latch.

These are extremely rare pieces of our history and usually sell in the $400-$950 range depending on the number of pictures. I, as always, try to pass on great prices if I am able to acquire antiques below market value. This is an original and very collectible item for your Civil War collection.

Offered with free domestic shipping. International customers please use the shipping feature in the shopping cart.

The entire size of this tiny locket is 7/8" x 13/16".

My living room 2018

Make sure to click on each picture to see the entire picture and its description! Finally! I have gotten a chance to take some pics of my home. Most of these pictures are of my living room that is set up as a lawyer's office from the early 1800s. (Yes! I am crazy!) This first pic is what you see when you walk into my living room and look to the right.
