Early 18th Century 'Blue' Glass Onion Bottle

Early 18th Century 'Blue' Glass Onion Bottle

$179.00Price

This is an early 18th century blue glass onion bottle. Unlike the more popular and easy to find green Dutch onion bottles, this one is British and was not recovered from a shipwreck. These rare coloured onions were blown by European glassblowers working in England starting in the early 1700's. It's blue/green color was produced by burning bracken and fern which creates potash to create this wonderful color. It has a blowpipe pontil to base that is off-center. Bought at a local auction, this bottle is priced below its market value. It is 7" tall.
