Early 19th Century Butter Stamp with Engraved Handle
A highly stylized early 19th century butter print with a wonderful two piece engraved handle. This early butter print is complete with a center design that may be a pineapple or a pinecone. It is not broken but was made that way to allow the bottom part of the design to overshadow that of the carved design. The face is carved of one piece of wood and the patina is consistent throughout the design. It is completely hand carved right down to the stem that bisects the sylized leaves on either side of the pineapple or pinecone head. When turned over you can see that beautiful handle that not only has cross-hatching on it but it has a slightly carved top that allowed for better handling of the butter stamp. The handle has been attached to the stamp as can be seen in the pictures. It has a 3" face diameter and is 4.75" long.
