Early 19th Century Powder Horn with Carved Initials and Trees
This is an early 19th century powder horn from a 50+ year old collection that is fresh to the market. It has the initials R. A. B. carved into one side of the horn with faint carvings of one large pine tree and a line of several deciduous trees without their leaves so this carving may have been done in the late fall. I have added a white arrow to one picture so you can see the pine tree near the large end of the horn. It has its original large wood top and may be from Pennsylvania.
I can see the owner of this large horn sitting in the woods and seeing the beauty of the trees around him, decides to carve that view on his powder horn. Its a beautiful early powder horn that is 13" long.
