Early 19th Century Small Bird Fowl Board in Original Red & Blue Painted
A fabulous little fowl/hunt board that would have been used for small birds like sparrows, quail, and other small game birds. In age, it is probably 1800-1820 and has its wonderful original red paint with blue highlights on some of the tips of the top decoration. The wrought iron hooks are all intact and as can be seen on the back of the board, the oxidation around the hooks shows the great age of this little board. Big holes on either side allow for large nails or hooks to be used for hanging and the loss of paint around the hooks show it was a well-used neccessity of an early American home. Found in Pennsylvania, it is probably Pennsylvania German and it is 26" long x 5.5" high to the top of the tips of the upper decoration.
