19th Century Double-Sided Tan & Black Checkerboard
This is a 19th century double-sided checkerboard in blacks and tans and looking at the single board contruction with a width of 17", it may date from the mid 1800's. The original varnish is still clean and not muddy with the board itself in excellent condition. It's surrounding wood frame is intact and has kept the board straight with no warping of the wood. The last owner of this checkerboard added a sawtooth hanger to hang it horizontally and that hanger can be easily removed. There is a painting of an early bicycle on the reverse side of the board that looks to be a later addition with the slight difference in color of the varnished top coat. A beautiful checkerboard in a highly desirable combination of colors. In the second picture of this listing, I show the checkerboard hanging in my living room to show its beautiful colors and design.
It is 17" wide x 28" long.
