Late Victorian Wallpaper Trinket Box

Late Victorian Wallpaper Trinket Box

This late Victorian band box or wallpaper box is a trinket box most probably purchased during the time of the American version of the 'Grand Tour' that was popular in Europe in the late 17th and 18th centuries when young men (and some women) would go on grand tours of Italy to absorb the wonders of the Ancient World. In late Victorian times, young American men and women would go on their own 'Grand Tour' of Europe and this box is an example of the type of trinket box brought back by young American ladies as a keepsake. It is a beautiful little box in excellent shape with a scene of a bridge crossing a river in either England or Italy.

It has a 4.5" x 6.5" diameter and stands 2" tall.

My Living Room 2018

My tastes in furniture and antiques are taking me earlier into our past and my living room right now my favorite room in my home. That grain painted wardrobe that you can see in this picture will soon be replaced by an 18th century highboy that I fell in love with while up in New England a few months ago.
