Miniature Painting in Bone Frame - Copy of a Romney Painting
A wonderful and amazing miniature portrait of a lady in a empire style green dress and lots of wonderful red hair. She was hand-painted on an oval sliver of ivory and then framed in an intricately pieced bone frame. She also retains her original paper backing, but the area around the actual portrait has been replaced. They were all the rage in the mid to late 1800's and would grace the walls of middle and upper class homes. They were copies of well-know real life portraits, with this one a copy of a George Romney portrait (Romney's 'signature' can be seen in the lower right side). The second picture in this listing shows this miniature portrait on my living room wall along with four others that were part of the collection I purchased. There is one more miniature portrait offered in this update. These miniatures were purchased and displayed to show the owner's good taste in home decoration. Place her on a dark wall or in a cuboard or on a candlestand or side table to bring out the color and beauty of this little minature portrait.
This miniature portrait measures 5" x 5.5".
