Pewter Candlestick w/RARE Pewter Peg Lamp - Late 18th Century
This is an 18th century pewter candlestick with a very rare fat/fluid peg lamp. Peg lamps of this kind and age are quite rare with this fat/fluid lamp a wonderful piece of workmanship right down to the tab that is used to open the top of the lamp so the fat or fluid can be added to the reservoir. The fat or fluid lamp could be used if the homeowner (or tavern owner) did not have - or could not afford - candles. In amazing shape, this early piece of lighting is also a beautiful piece of art. The candlestick stands 11" tall and the entire piece stands 12" tall.
